NARROWING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN QUANG NINH PROVINCE AND OTHER LOCALITIES
With synchronous infrastructure in all three modes of air, sea, and land, the travel and connections between Quang Ninh and other regional and international localities have never been so smooth and favourable as they are today.
Accordingly, within just four hours, investors from the Republic of Korea and Japan can reach Ha Long by charter flights via Van Don International Airport.
Along with the air transport, the launch of a 176 km-long expressway has become the most important traffic project in Quang Ninh Province to date. Thanks to the project, instead of 3.5-hour travelling from Hanoi to Ha Long and six hours to Mong Cai City, now the travel time has been cut by nearly half. The route is not only considered an important backbone contributing to shortening the travel time between areas in the province, it is also a key traffic route for the entire region.
Currently, Quang Ninh Province’s adjacent localities such as Lang Son, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, and Hai Phong are all actively implementing transport projects connecting them with Quang Ninh’s expressway.
This is also the driving force behind the formation of an eastern expressway axis running from Hanoi to Mong Cai through Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Hai Phong.
This linkage chain will help areas inside and outside the province to clear the hurdles to their development; enhance the position of the region and the broader country; and exert a strong impact on commerce, cargo transport, tourism development, investment attraction and job creation. It will also shorten travel times, thereby helping to reduce transport and investment costs, increase profits for enterprises and promote economic growth.
The Ha Long-Hai Phong Expressway and the Van Don-Mong Cai Expressway in particular have cut the travel time from Hanoi to Mong Cai Border Gate in Quang Ninh Province to just three hours, forming a complete route all the way from Lao Cai to Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Ha Long, and Mong Cai.
This expressway helps connect three key growth regions in the north: Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.
Also with this expressway, in July 2022, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong and Hung Yen signed a commitment to form an economic linkage along the eastern expressway axis with a total area three times larger than Hanoi, five times larger than Ho Chi Minh City and eight times larger than Da Nang.
Quang Ninh plays the role of a connection centre, as it possesses nearly 2/3 of the highway axis extending from Hanoi to the Mong Cai International Border Gate.
Transport infrastructure projects invested and put into operation have quickly promoted effectiveness, promoted local socio-economic development, created a new look for Quang Ninh's transport infrastructure according to modern - convenient - efficient and safe direction, and ensured faster connection to the region and the world.
In addition, Quang Ninh Seaport is gradually promoting its potential and advantages in the transhipment of goods, bulk goods, and specialised goods, so the total volume of goods passing through the port is equivalent to 75% of Hai Phong Port.
Quang Ninh Seaport can receive specialised ships (coal, cement, petroleum, etc.) with large tonnage and international cruises. The system of seaports and dual-use ports on the islands is gradually invested in and built, contributing to socio-economic development, and serving national defence and security.
Quang Ninh Port’s capacity to receive large ships is not inferior to the Lach Huyen wharf area of Hai Phong Port and is highly competitive with other wharf areas in Hai Phong City.
According to Nguyen Xuan Ky, in the near future, Quang Ninh will continue improving traffic corridors to create economic and urban corridors; optimising the use of natural and human resources, creating the highest efficiency in investment attraction and promotion, for socio-economic development of localities.
From a province facing difficulties in many aspects, Quang Ninh has now become one of the localities with the best infrastructure index in Vietnam. The province has been continuing to invest tens of trillions of Vietnamese dong to develop infrastructure, especially intra-provincial and inter-city transport infrastructure.
From a province facing difficulties in many aspects, Quang Ninh has now become one of the localities with the best infrastructure index in Vietnam.
Quang Ninh Province plays an important role in economic development goals in the Red River Delta region because the province is an inseparable part of the “development triangle” (along with Hanoi and Hai Phong).
Quang Ninh’s role in economic goals has been and will be enhanced in the 2021 - 2030 period, as one of the five target economic corridors (Hanoi - Noi Bai - Ha Long).
With robust infrastructure, the province can help localities in the Red River Delta improve connectivity and access new markets such as Guangxi (China), through Mong Cai Border Gate. Quang Ninh can also integrate into the existing ecosystem of provinces and cities in the Red River Delta, to create a world-class comprehensive supply chain.
In particular, Quang Ninh has established strong tourism cooperation with several provinces and cities in the Red River Delta, especially the tours of Hanoi - Quang Ninh and religious tours to Trang An - Con Son Kiep Bac - Yen Tu.
Thanks to synchronous infrastructure and inter-regional connectivity, Quang Ninh's average growth rate in the five years from 2011 to 2015 reached 9.2%/year, and reached 10.7%/year in the period 2016 to 2020, both higher than the national average. For seven consecutive years (2016-2022), the province has achieved double-digit GRDP growth, although three of those years (2020, 2021, and 2022) were seriously affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.
In the first 9 months of 2023, in the context of the whole country facing difficulties due to the pandemic, Quang Ninh's GRPP is estimated to have reached nearly 10%. In which, the construction industry is estimated to have increased by 9.08%; the agriculture and forestry sector is estimated to haveincreased by 4.19%; and the service sector is estimated to have increased by 12.76%.
In the coming time, Quang Ninh determines to continue perfecting traffic corridors to create economic corridors and urban corridors; optimising the use of natural resources and human resources to bring the highest efficiency in attracting investment as well as promoting socio-economic development of localities.
► Synchronous infrastructure, inter-regional connectivity
Over many years, with the mindset of “there is an avenue, there is great wealth”, Quang Ninh has been making continuous efforts regarding investment to gain a synchronous infrastructure system, affirming its important role in regional linkage.
